What Have You Done Lately to Engage Employees?

In the last few days, the news has been brimming with sadness: the loss ofSteve Jobs, protests around the nation by unemployed and underemployed workers. Do you feel like you’re walking on egg shells around the office?

These unsettling times could make any HR manager shake in his/ her boots. I think it begs the question, what have you done to keep your employees motivated? Many companies have had to cut jobs, wages, overtime and benefits. It’s time for creativity to engage employees!

In the September 2011 Report by the Globoforce Workforce Mood Tracker, one message rang clear: “Employees still haven’t found what they are looking for – more recognition.” A company’s greatest asset is their employees. If employees feel their extra work is going unrecognized, they may jump ship, or protest on Wall Street…

One of the biggest hurdles for most HR managers is the fear their employee recognition program will cost an arm and a leg so upper management will not approve. Not true! Your rewards programs can be tailored and shaped to any budget. If you work out a yearly budget with upper management, make sure to leave room for your employee recognition program!
